How to Choose the Right Black Dab Rig

Black shows up as a full-color body or accent details on clear glass. A full-color build makes the boldest statement, accent pieces keep more of the classic clear-glass look while working the color in.

Decide between a fully black body and a clear rig with black accents.
Check the percolator and joint size as you would on any rig.
Plan to hold the glass up to the light when cleaning, since residue is harder to spot on dark glass.

How to Use a Black Dab Rig

Heat the banger, cool it down, then load.

Fill the base with water until the downstem is covered.
Heat the banger with a butane dab torch until it glows, then let it cool.
Load your concentrate and inhale slowly.
Cap it if using a dab carb cap.
Rinse after every session, dark glass still needs regular cleaning even if buildup is harder to see.

Why Shop Black Dab Rigs at Smoke Cartel?

Black glass hides resin discoloration longer than clear glass and pairs easily with other accessories. The tradeoff is that buildup is harder to spot, so rinse after each session instead of waiting until it looks dirty. Frequently Asked Questions

Is a black dab rig made differently than clear glass?

No. It uses the same borosilicate glass and construction, with color from fused glass rod or a frit layer added during blowing. Choose on shape and percolator, as you would any piece.

Does a black dab rig hide resin buildup better than clear glass?

Yes, that’s a main reason people pick it. Dark opaque glass masks discoloration far longer than clear glass, which makes sticking to a regular cleaning schedule even more worthwhile.

Will the black finish fade over time?

A properly fused color holds up well with normal cleaning because it’s worked into the glass rather than painted on. There’s no coating to wear off, so it keeps its depth.

Are black dab rigs more expensive than clear ones?

Not because of the color. Pricing comes down to the same factors as any piece: thickness, percolator and brand. Compare thickness and perc type before comparing price, since those drive cost.

Do black dab rigs pair well with other dark accessories?

Yes. Black glass matches almost any accessory color without clashing, and pairing it with matching dark accessories gives you a consistent, cohesive look on the shelf. Browse matching gear in our Dab Tools collection. For more, see our guide: Dab Rigs Explained: Understanding the Different Types.
