How to Choose the Right 14mm Dab Rig

14mm gives you the widest compatibility with quartz bangers, carb caps, and adapters, so if you're building a setup piece by piece rather than buying a bundled kit, this joint size makes sourcing parts far easier down the line.

Confirm the joint is 14mm and whether it is male or female.
Match your banger and carb cap to that joint size and gender.
Choose a rig height and percolator that suit your space and how smooth you want the hit.

How to Use a 14mm Dab Rig

Heat the banger, let it cool, then load.

Fill the base with water until the downstem is covered.
Heat the 14mm banger with a dab torch until it glows, then let it cool to your target temperature.
Load your concentrate and inhale slowly.
Cap it if using a carb cap.
Clean the banger while still warm, then rinse the chamber after every session.

Frequently Asked Questions

How do you know what size banger your dab rig needs?

Check the joint size, usually 10mm, 14mm, or 18mm. You’ll also need to match the joint gender, male or female to ensure that the banger fits properly.

What is the most common dab rig joint size?

14mm is a common dab rig joint size, offering a wide selection of compatible quartz bangers and other accessories.

What’s the difference between a 14mm and 10mm dab rig?

Mostly banger size and heat retention. A 14mm holds heat a bit longer and gives more timing margin than the smaller, faster-cooling 10mm, though 10mm can mean slightly cooler, more flavor-focused hits.

Is a 14mm rig good for beginners?

Yes, the extra thermal margin makes banger timing more forgiving while you’re still learning. Pair it with a quartz banger and a carb cap, start with low heat, and work up gradually.

What’s the difference between 14mm and 18mm dab rigs?

18mm joints are larger, so they fit bigger bangers and move more air for bigger, heavier hits. 14mm is easier to find gear for and more forgiving, which is why it’s the standard.

Can you use a 14mm banger on a 10mm dab rig?

Not directly. You’ll need a compatible joint adapter to connect a 14mm banger to a 10mm rig. For more, see our guide: Dab Rig Sizes: How to Choose the Right One for Your Sessions.
