The trend of using a dab rig or oil rig has exploded in popularity over the past few years. Although, if you have never used it before, it can prove to be a confusing task.
Today, we will take you through the basics while breaking down the process into six steps which are simple and easy to follow.
FIRST, A DEFINITION
A dab rig is similar in design and appearance to a glass water pipe on a very close level. However, dab rigs are specifically designed for oil concentrates.
WHAT YOU’LL NEED
- Dab Rig With Dab Nail
- Dabber/Dab Tool
- Torch or E-Nail
- Concentrates
STEP 1: WATER THE CHAMBER
Start by adding some water to the area of the chamber of your dab rig. If it splashes when you give it a pull, pour some of the water out.
STEP 2: SEASON YOUR NAIL
You will always want to season a titanium or quartz dab nail. An unseasoned nail can emit an unpleasant taste of metal into the vapor that you are about to inhale.
In order to season your nail in the rig while heating it with your hand, torch it until you start seeing the nail turning red in color. Then, use the dabber to apply the essential concentrate of oil over the head of the nail. Once it completely coats the nail, use the tongs to remove the nail and place it into a water bowl. Repeat the process at least three times before you use your new nail for the first time.
STEP 3: PREP YOUR DAB
Take the dab tool and pick a small amount of herbal concentrate. Always remember, when this method is used, a little goes a long way.
STEP 4: HEAT THE NAIL
Using your hand, torch and heat up the nail, ensuring that the flame points away from the dab rig all the time. Otherwise, the heat may cause the glass to crack. Heat it until the nail turns red hot. Once it stops glowing, the nail, wait for almost 45 seconds.
STEP 5: WAIT
Wait until the nail is completely red hot then move the flame away. Once the nail is no longer red hot, it will signify that a specific temperature has been reached. That temperature can be considered as the ideal temperature and you can record it so that you use the optimal temperature every time you use it. The specified amount of time you will need to wait varies depending on what your preference is and the type of nail. Feel absolutely free to experiment for yourself -- you will be able to hone the waiting time the more you practice. You should although be careful and wait a minimum of 10 seconds. Some of you users may feel that they get better dabs if they wait 20 to 30 seconds before they move on to the next step.
STEP 6: PLACE CONCENTRATE ON NAIL & INHALE
After your nail has slightly cooled down, pick up the dab wand while placing the wax/oil around the nail. You will want to slightly rub the end of the wand which contains the oil around the edges of the interior of the nail. While you are doing this, pull air through the chamber, making water bubble as vapors are produced.
You will start to see the vapors filling the glass as the melting concentrates. At this step, inhale the flavorful herb as it comes out of the down stem. Continuously inhale until you no longer see vapor in the chamber of the dab rig.
