Magic Flight, the brand behind the well-loved Magic Flight Box dry herb vaporizer, definitely has a thing for good design work - from the packaging to the product design, the Muad Dib vaporizer’s fantastic branding definitely caught my eye. The Muad Dib (pronounced Maw-Deeb) comes in either Walnut or Noir - I decided that I wanted the Walnut version, with a light brown body constructed of Walnut wood. However, the main eye-catching element of the Dib’s appearance is the brass lid, complete with a piece of optical-grade glass to provide you a window to view your concentrates vaporizing on the metal trench below. It looks like a steam punk prop, but in the best of ways - it’s classy and vintage-looking with a really high level of craftsmanship. Pair that with a stellar function, and you’ve got yourself one of the best concentrate vaporizers on the market, bar none.
As I mentioned before, the package design is really impeccable. The kit comes with all sorts of awesome accessories, including a perfectly sized tin box to store your Dib and accessories in, a filling tool, a cleaning tool, and two extra screens. It also comes with a battery charger and two - count ‘em, two - batteries. This is the perfect set-up to make sure you’ve always got a charged battery on hand to use with your Muad Dib, and with two extra screens, you won’t have to buy extra supplies for your Dib for a while - especially if you take good care of your screen.
The Muad Dib is incredibly easy to use. The batteries might need a little bit of a power boost when you get them, but if you’ve got a suitable charge, the Muad Dib is ready to use right out of the box. Just place a small amount of concentrate directly into the small metal trench, close the glass window, and make sure the whip is correctly attached. From there, you take one of the batteries, remove the plastic cover on the ‘nipple’ end, and insert it, nipple first, into the hole on the body of the vaporizer. You place the other end of the whip in your mouth and begin drawing - that’s the key! Always begin your draw before you start the vaporization process, that way nothing is wasted. It only takes a few seconds for the metal trench to get super hot - insanely hot, actually, which is why it’s important to maintain a quick but smooth draw. You don’t want to draw too quickly and get a harsh hit! It takes a bit of practice to make sure you’ve got the correct draw rate compared to your vaporization rate, but when you can get the perfect flow, you’ll experience some of the tastiest hits you’ve ever had.
The Dib works better than any concentrate vaporizer I’ve tried thus far - and I’ve tried plenty in all sorts of styles, pen and whip alike. It might not be the most subtle or discreet vape, but the sheer multifunctionality of the Dib, combined with the peerless flavor of the hits, makes it the best concentrate vaporizer in my book. This goes especially for those that are looking for something that can function as more than just an on-the-go vape. Due to my asthma, even cooler hits can sometimes cause me to cough. The vapors from the Muad Dib were just hot enough to bother my lungs, so I decided to try Macgyvering the whip to make it work with my water pipe. I discovered that the end of the whip can fit perfectly into a 10mm female joint, and that as long as the joint is long enough to accommodate the length of the metal end of the whip, you can create a seal on the joint with the silicone part of the whip. This allows me to take huge hits with the Muad Dib while still getting the awesome percolation of a water pipe - it’s just incredible! It can basically function as a portable e-nail.
The only real complaint I have about the Muad Dib is that the hits directly off of the vaporizer can sometimes be a little too hot, but with a metal trench that can reach up to 900 degrees in a matter of seconds, this kind of side effect is to be expected. You can hook the Dib up to a water pipe with a 10mm female joint, or you can purchase the Muad Dib water pipe joint whip attachment, which comes with a 14mm male glass joint on one end of the whip. I have only used high quality concentrates with my Dib so far, so I haven’t witnessed this first hand, but I would recommend to not use low-quality concentrates with this vaporizer - anything that doesn’t vaporize will immediately clog up your screen and make the hits taste not so great. The Dib is also not the most discreet, but I don’t have much to complain about there because it is so multifunctional that discretion isn’t the top on my list of must-have attributes with this vape.
Overall, though, if you don’t have weak or sensitive lungs, the Muad Dib will give you good, flavorful hits, and the ability to easily turn the heating element off and on allows for easy modification of your draw and vaporization rates, if not with just a little practice. The fact that this vaporizer also can function as an e-nail puts it in a place of honor in my heart - and leads me to believe that this is one of the best vaporizers on the market.
