We love our dogs because they love us. We connect with them, we bond with them, and we share moments throughout our every day lives of togetherness and companionship that make us feel loved. After a long day of life’s trials and tribulations, your dog’s euphoric prance at the jangle of your keys is their way of showing you that they're your biggest fan.
Sometimes it feels like there’s not enough love in world to give them in return. Sometimes you look at their seemingly inquisitive eyes pleading at you and wonder, “What is it? What do you need?” They may not be able to communicate the way we can, but we have a lot in common. That’s why we get along so well.
Just like CBD can potentially be a powerful tool for us humans, so might it render the same benefits for man's best friend.
Is CBD Safe for My Dog?
While there have been no definitive studies performed on the effects of hemp-derived CBD oil on cats or dogs (simply because of time— the Farm Bill was only recently passed in 2018), veterinarians and owners alike have reported CBD’s remarkable safety threshold in both.
There is scientific evidence that supports the claim CBD may have the potential to relieve inflammation, anxiety, pain, and nausea in both humans and animals. That combined with its fairly remarkable safety at varied doses across multiple sizes in pets, and CBD might be the perfect option to try compared to other FAR riskier painkillers (any pet owner knows something as simple as ibuprofen is incredibly toxic outside of a specific dose).
What Type of CBD Should I Give My Dog?
CBD is available in a variety of different forms, but probably the easiest method of delivery for such a difficult client would be CBD pet treats.
These treats come infused with a pre-measured dose of CBD that’s delicious and fun. This also makes them easy to keep track of dosage and frequency of administration.
Hemp-derived CBD oil can also be formulated into an oral tincture specifically for use with pets. These are flavored and can be dropped directly onto the tongue (good luck with that) or into food/water.
How Much CBD Should I Give My Dog?
As is the case with humans, the “goldilocks dose” for CBD that works best with your body’s physiology to potentially treat whatever you may be seeking relief from most effectively will be a little different for everyone and everything. Like we mentioned, CBD is tolerated very well by the body (yes, dog bodies too). It's recommended that you start low and work your way up until you reach the dose that works for your dog's size and symptoms.
Each tincture includes a pipette which contains graduated milliliter measurements so you can accurately prepare each dosage.
This chart is intended for use with a 500mg CBD tincture, but the figures can be easily adjusted for varying sizes.
